Whichford sits on the edge of the Cotswolds in south Warwickshire, and its surrounding countryside of gentle limestone hills, mixed woodland and small fields makes for pleasant, low-key camping and touring country rather than dramatic wild landscapes. As with everywhere else in England, wild camping without the landowner's permission is not legal here, so pitching up in Whichford Wood or the surrounding farmland on spec is not an option — stick to licensed campsites, or ask permission directly if a specific farm or landowner allows it.
There is no large campsite directly in Whichford itself, but the wider area around Shipston-on-Stour, Long Compton and the north Cotswolds has a good spread of small, independent sites, from simple grass touring pitches to glamping options such as safari tents, shepherd's huts and yurts set on working farms. Nearby villages including Long Compton and the area around the Rollright Stones have hosted small camping and glamping pitches in the past, so it is worth checking current availability locally, as sites in this part of Warwickshire and Oxfordshire tend to be small, seasonal and quick to fill in summer.
The best months to camp here run from late spring through to early autumn. May brings the bluebells to Whichford Wood and mild, lengthening days; midsummer offers the longest evenings for sitting out and walking to nearby villages or the stone circle; and September and early October can bring some of the calmer, driest weather of the year along with autumn colour in the woodland. Given the clay-heavy soils typical of this part of Warwickshire, conditions underfoot can turn heavy after rain, so a site with reasonable drainage — or a glamping structure with a proper base — is worth prioritising outside the height of summer. Whatever the season, this is gentle, quiet countryside best suited to short stays, good walking boots and evenings spent at a nearby pub rather than anything more remote.
