About Malmaison York

York's mix of medieval streets and cathedral grandeur is easy to reach from Malmaison York, a 150-room hotel set centrally within the city, close to York Minster and the Shambles as well as the main transport links. It's a good base for exploring on foot, with much of the historic centre a short walk away.

Rooms come with air conditioning, en-suite bathrooms, drinks and room service, and are finished in a smart, contemporary style, with Nespresso machines and monsoon showers among the details guests notice most. Family rooms and accessible rooms are available, and pets are welcome throughout. Downstairs there's a restaurant serving breakfast that's consistently well regarded, plus a bar, gym and spa with sauna, along with meeting rooms and business facilities for those travelling with work in mind. Staff are generally friendly and helpful, though service can be slow to respond at busier times.

Beyond the hotel, York's pubs, restaurants and entertainment venues are all close at hand, with golf and fishing available nearby for those wanting to venture a little further. On-site parking is available for an additional charge, though a reservation is needed in advance.

Went for afternoon tea as a local resident saw reviews . Service slow although the staff were pleasant. went to pay took ages to take the Payment we lost our taxi due to length of time it took .., Biggest shock was ordered extra drinks Went to pay they’d cheekily added VAT on the bill so £27 drinks ended costing £33 ! Although this is not advertised on the drinks menu was not made aware Would I go back here again it’s a No a lot more reasonably priced and better quality establishments in York .

Wanted to give the hotel 5 stars. Just a couple of niggles which you would not expect of a 4-star hotel in the centre of York. Staff lovely and friendly, breakfast fresh and delicious with a good choice. Rooms have a unique design of what can only be described as an open plan bathroom. I didn't mind it but I can see how others might. Bed big and comfy. Niggles included dust on cups and spoons, only enough shower gel for 1 shower, empty tissue box and a dirty towel (1 of 4). All put right at the first request but should not be needed in a 4-star hotel. Great location for city centre attractions. A little more attention to detail and it would have been 5 stars.

We received a voucher for an afternoon tea from our son. We booked a table, we were asked for our drink preferences by an enthusiastic server. She explained the voucher and seated us at nice table. She returned shortly with our drinks, and ten minutes later with our food. There was a great selection. Crispy chicken, coated in a slightly spicy sauce, sliders, prawn cocktail and scones with salted caramel butter, creme brushed and two other delicious cakes. ALL the staff were friendly and polite and made you feel valued. The hot drinks were unlimited, and very refreshing. The only thing missing, was the ability to partake of the feast outdoors. Well worth a visit. It was so good last time we bought our own voucher. The experience didn't disappoint, the quality of food and care was the same or better than last time, a truly uplifting experience. Many thanks Malmaison.

*REVIEW OF THE RESTAURANT ONLY* We had been kindly given a voucher for an afternoon tea at Malmaison for Christmas and were very excited to use it. Upon arrival the waiter couldn't have been more friendly and accommodating, in fact, every member of the restaurant team that we spoke to were helpful and kind. The restaurant itself is lovely - nice big booths to sit in, and spotlessly clean - it had a very upmarket feel to it. The afternoon tea was also delightful and we loved the twist they gave it (looking at the menu there were a few things I wouldn't have picked out for myself, yet when I tried them they were delicious!) They also catered extremely well for my coeliac husband and he was very happy with his selection of savoury options and desserts. Overall, we had a fab experience here and would return!
