A small five-room pub-hotel on Lawrence Street in York, known locally for its homemade pies and cosy bar atmosphere.

About The Rose And Crown

York's historic streets are within easy reach of Lawrence Street, where The Rose And Crown offers a compact, homely base for exploring the city. York Castle Museum is among the local points of interest, with the city centre itself just a short distance away.

The Rose And Crown has just five rooms, each with an en-suite bathroom, making for a small and personal stay rather than a large hotel experience. Family rooms are available, and guests can expect free WiFi and drinks served in the room. The pub kitchen is a particular draw, with homemade pies served in generous portions alongside crispy chunky chips, all enjoyed in a warm, cosy setting with attentive staff on hand. Breakfast is included, and there's a bar and garden for relaxing outdoors.

Beyond the pies, the property caters for a range of occasions, with facilities for weddings, meetings and business visits, plus laundry service for longer stays. Pets are welcome, and free on-site parking is provided. The surrounding area suits walkers and cyclists, with golf, pubs, bars and restaurants all nearby, making it a convenient spot for both exploring York and settling in for an evening by the bar.

Ist time here at the Rise n Crown. On arrival was met by Olly I believe one of the bar staff,so welcoming and check in easy. Room was spacious with a comfortable bed and all other amenities. Had dinner in bar one of their famous pies delicious and hot hot. Breakfast likewise plenty to choose to set you up for the day. The location is a stones through to the centre and the car park is big enough to accommodate. All staff were very friendly and attentive to your needs. Defo recommend this place.

Visited for lunch. Fantastic service with a rustic and friendly feel. The pub, known for its pies delivered nicely on them. The pies (of which is a large selection) are served with gravy, mushy peas and chips. The highlight were the chunky, crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside chips. The peas on the other hand were much too over-seasoned. The pies themselves were clearly homemade, and were tasty, however they did not blow me away, especially given the price point. We also ordered some Nachos, which were fantastic. Staff were amazingly helpful, friendly and attentive.

Sir Bagger Of Tea

Whilst a short journey from the center, this pub meets all the requirements of being an authentic old English pub. Ladies and gentlemen, should you ever desire a pie for tea then look no further than the Rose and Crown. The prices are not too crazy and the portions at first feel short handed, I guarantee you that it is simply your eyes being too big for your belly. Come on down and enjoy the experience this authentic rustic pub has to offer

Lovely Gastropub, found as we travelled from Whitby to Luton. We did stay here,we just made a stop for lunch. Delicious food..freshly made Shepherds pie made from lamb in Guinness. Sooo yummy. The pastry is the best I've had as a pie.!! The lady who served us was warm and friendly. The gentleman supporting her was equally the same. Highly recommended for great local food and the warm Yorkshire hospitality!
