Camping in Aberaeron

Aberaeron itself has no campsite directly in the town, but the surrounding Ceredigion coast and the Vale of Aeron countryside inland offer a good spread of touring parks, small farm campsites and glamping pods within a short drive, making the harbour an easy day-trip destination for anyone camping nearby. As in the rest of Wales, wild camping is not a general legal right – almost all land, including much of the coast path and surrounding farmland, is privately owned, so pitching a tent without the landowner's permission is technically trespass. Stick to licensed sites or seek permission directly from farmers and landowners, several of whom run small, informal campsites alongside their working farms.

The terrain around Aberaeron suits camping well: gently rolling farmland gives way to dramatic coastal cliffs and coves along the Wales Coast Path towards New Quay and Llangrannog, so pitches with sea views are common at sites just outside town, and several are within walking or cycling distance of the harbour itself. The exposed clifftop stretches can be breezy, so a well-pegged tent and a pitch with some natural shelter are worth seeking out, particularly in spring and autumn.

May to September is the most reliable window, with June and July typically offering the calmest weather and the best odds of a boat trip out to see the Cardigan Bay dolphins actually running. Midges and coastal damp can be an issue in high summer after rain, so a well-ventilated tent pays off. For those who would rather skip the guy ropes altogether, glamping options in the area – shepherd's huts, safari tents and static pods on farms around the Vale of Aeron – have grown considerably in recent years, offering a comfortable base with the same coastal and countryside views without needing to pitch anything yourself.
