About Holiday Inn Express Edinburgh City Centre

Edinburgh's attractions, from the historic Old Town to a wide choice of pubs, restaurants and entertainment venues, are within easy reach of Holiday Inn Express Edinburgh City Centre, and a tram stop right outside the door makes getting further afield straightforward too. Golf, fishing and watersports are also listed nearby for those wanting to get out of the city itself.

The hotel has 186 rooms, including family and accessible options, all with en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning and free WiFi, plus drinks available in room. There's a lift for easy access to all floors, and staff are on hand to help with luggage storage and laundry service during a stay. A bar on site gives somewhere to unwind without leaving the building, and breakfast includes hot options each morning. There is no parking available at the property, so those without a car staying centrally will find this less of a drawback.

Rooms are generally kept clean and comfortable, though some visitors have noted mould in the bathrooms, worth bearing in mind. Pets are welcome, and the central position on Picardy Place makes this a practical base for exploring Edinburgh on foot or by tram.

Awesome check in with the Philippine front office lady. Very polite and helpful. Recognised my IHG level. The location of the hotel is wonderful and very accessible for all tourist spots. Breakfast was super busy. The staff tried their best. Could maybe look at replacing the inserts of food after 10am as the ring of stained beans and scrambled eggs were not appealing. Loved the parsley soap in the rooms. Definitely recommend the hotel

Right opposite the Playhouse theatre, so a great choice of visiting there. Close to Waverly train station. Check in was quick and efficient and staff. Are friendly. Rooms a decent size and come with tea and coffee making facilities along with an iron and ironing board. A smart TV and free wi fi is included, which I found to be a good signal strength. No problems there. Rooms have no drawers on units, and no safe, due to it being an express holiday inn. So just be aware if bringing valuables or anything you don't want on display. Overall I would recommend this hotel to anyone, especially those who are intending on going to the theatre as like I said earlier is just opposite this hotel.

Unfortunately our stay at Holiday Inn Express Edinburgh (Picardy place)was extremely disappointing and nowhere near worth the price we paid. The only real positive was the location, which is excellent, with plenty of restaurants and places to eat nearby. Unfortunately, everything else fell far below the standard I expect from a Holiday Inn. Parking was a nightmare. There wasn’t even a designated area where guests could unload luggage. We repeatedly had to call reception to ask them to open the rear car park gate just so we could get our suitcases in and out. This was unnecessarily inconvenient, especially for families. The customer service was equally disappointing. The staff were generally unhelpful, unfriendly, and came across as rude. There was rarely a smile, a greeting, or even a simple “thank you.” Every time we needed something as basic as toilet paper, we had to go downstairs ourselves. The toilet paper provided was poor quality and the smallest rolls imaginable. We booked a family room, but it was unbelievably cramped. It was smaller than many standard double rooms I’ve stayed in. A sofa bed had simply been squeezed into the room, leaving almost no space to move around. A chair had been pushed into such a tight corner that it couldn’t even be pulled out properly. As someone with a knee problem, I needed the chair to sit comfortably, but it was practically inaccessible because of how cramped the room was. Cleanliness was another major issue. The bed linen had visible stains, and when we asked for clean sheets, staff simply handed them to us and expected us to change the bedding ourselves. I found this completely unacceptable. Used tea and coffee sachets from previous guests had not been cleared away, the carpets had clearly not been vacuumed, and despite requesting room cleaning twice, very little appeared to have been done. Housekeeping standards were extremely poor, and management seriously needs to review the quality of cleaning being carried out. Breakfast was another huge disappointment. The hash browns were cold, rubbery, and tasted as though they had been sitting around for days. Overall, the breakfast quality was very poor. To make matters worse, drinks such as juice and water were located downstairs, while the hot breakfast was served upstairs, meaning guests had to carry their drinks between floors. It was an inconvenient and poorly thought-out setup. Overall, this hotel relies heavily on its excellent location, but that alone does not justify the high prices. The poor cleanliness, cramped rooms, lack of customer service, inconvenient parking, and disappointing breakfast made this one of the worst Holiday Inn Express experiences I’ve had. I would not stay here again and cannot recommend it unless location is your only priority.

Basic rooms (but clean and comfortable), decent breakfast (included in the price), very helpful staff and excellent location. The Royal Mile and Prince's Street is close by. In addition, there is a tram stop just outside the hotel so travel from the airport is very easy. The hotel is very good at storing cases. I would recommend this hotel if you are on a budget as its no frills ambience is more than offset by affordability and an excellent location.
