Camping in Elgin

Elgin itself has one long-standing touring site within the town, but the wider Moray coast around it is where camping and caravanning really come into their own, with a string of parks strung along the shoreline between Findhorn and Lossiemouth making the most of the area's beaches, dunes and golf links. This stretch of coast is known locally as the Moray Firth's Sunshine Coast for its comparatively low rainfall and long hours of summer daylight, and it draws a steady stream of touring caravans, motorhomes and tents through the season.

Facilities across the area range from simple, family-run touring parks to larger holiday parks with swimming pools, entertainment programmes and static caravan hire alongside pitches, so campers can choose between a quiet, no-frills stay and a fuller holiday-park experience depending on what suits. Electric hook-up, showers and laundry facilities are standard at the larger sites, and several welcome dogs, making the coast a popular choice for families and dog owners touring Scotland by caravan or camper van.

Most sites operate a full season from spring through to autumn, with some open closures over winter for maintenance, so it is worth checking dates before travelling outside the main May-to-September period. Given the popularity of the coast in July and August, and the pull of the Spirit of Speyside festival in early May, booking pitches ahead for peak weekends is sensible, particularly for sites with limited touring pitch numbers.
