Degnish Farmhouse
Argyll and Bute
View on Google MapsPhoto: Degnish Farmhouse
The Argyll coast around Oban draws visitors for its islands, lochs and wild scenery. Degnish Farmhouse occupies its own corner of a substantial hill farm at the western end of Loch Melfort, commanding views across the water to neighbouring islands. The setting is genuinely remote—a working landscape rather than a manicured one—though Oban's shops and restaurants are a scenic drive north when you need them.
The house itself is a four-bedroom detached property sleeping up to 10, arranged over two floors with three bathrooms. Downstairs there is a large open-plan living and dining space with a woodburner, a separate kitchen equipped for proper cooking, and a sun room opening onto the garden. Bedrooms upstairs include two doubles and further rooms; each has its own en-suite. Essentials like linen, towels, WiFi and heating are included. There is parking on site and a covered outdoor barbecue area, plus an enclosed garden suitable for younger children.
This is the kind of location where you can spend a week without leaving the property—walking the farm's trails, watching for otters and seals, fishing the hill loch or simply taking in the views—or use it as a base for exploring further: island ferries leave from nearby, golf and water sports are accessible, and Ardmaddy Castle Gardens (3½ miles away) offers gardens and a tennis court for guest use. The nearest shop and pub are five miles distant. No smoking in the house. One dog is welcome.

A magical peninsular and incredibly cosy home to explore it from. Banging internet inside and vistas that you never tire of outside. Paradise found!

We stayed as a family to celebrate a 60th birthday. The house is in a stunning location with beautiful views in all directions. Facilities in the house were good and reliable Wi-Fi despite the remote area. The size of the house is suited to a large family group with plenty of space. The wood burning stove was cosy in the evenings. We enjoyed exploring the estate with walks to admaddy castle and also climbed to the top of an old hill fort ( Dun Fadaidh) that we spotted on the map. The area around the house is very sheepy, so bare this in mind if bringing a dog.
