Lovely wee museum to see the history of Scottish money. Also see what £1,000,000 looks like in £20 notes. Crack the combination safe to win a little free gift in exchange for the golden ticket (we got a pen but the excitement of winning was the best prize lol). Toilet facilities. They are making a small sensory and flower garden with spectacular views over the city. If you have an hour free in Edinburgh then pop in. No cafe but plenty coffee shops nearby. Free Entry.

The Museum on the Mound is a small but very interesting museum in the heart of Edinburgh. Best of all, it's free to visit. The exhibits tell the story of money, banking, and finance in Scotland in an engaging and easy-to-understand way. Although it doesn’t take long to explore, it offers some fascinating insights into Scottish history and the development of its financial system. Definitely worth a quick stop if you’re in the area.

Great overview of the history of banking in Scotland. You can also see £1 million in £20 notes. The museum is easily found, it is very well presented and the entrance is free. I really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend to visit.

I had such a great time at Museum on the Mound! It’s not your typical tourist attraction, there were hardly any crowds, and that made it feel very peaceful and personal. The collection of old money and banking history is fascinating, and it’s laid out in a way that’s easy to follow, even if you’re not an expert. There’s also a fun little game you can play during your visit, which I found exciting. Its not every day a museum lets you win something! I’d highly recommend stopping by if you want something off the beaten path that’s still fun, educational, and surprisingly interactive.
