Ground on the common can turn soft after rain, and the exposed hill ridges catch wind and weather quickly, so it is worth checking conditions before committing to a more remote spot.

Late spring to early autumn is the most comfortable camping season here, with April to September offering the driest ground and the longest daylight for exploring the hills and common. July brings the added draw of the Welland Steam Rally on the last weekend of the month, though it is worth booking early if visiting then, as local sites fill quickly. For those who would rather have four solid walls and a proper bed after a day on the Malverns, glamping options such as shepherd's huts, pods and bell tents are increasingly common across the wider Malvern Hills area, offering a similar closeness to the landscape without needing to pitch a tent yourself.
