About The Crown Hotel

The Crown Hotel occupies a handsome position on The Buttlands, the tree-lined Georgian green a short walk uphill from Wells quay, and has been reworked into a boutique hotel of twenty-two rooms including several family rooms and suites with separate children's rooms. Each room is individually decorated, favouring a warm, contemporary take on coastal styling over anything overly formal.

The hotel's restaurant is a significant part of its appeal, with a menu built around the freshest seasonal produce available and a kitchen overseen by a chef with a strong reputation locally. A free hotel car park, a genuine rarity in central Wells, adds a practical edge to the property's appeal for anyone arriving by road.

Its position on The Buttlands puts it within easy walking distance of the quay, the beach road and the town's shops, while offering a quieter, more residential setting than a seafront address. The combination of comfortable, well-appointed rooms and a serious approach to food makes it a natural choice for a special weekend rather than a simple overnight stop.

Had the most amazing meal at The Crown this evening. Super tasty sweet potato and coconut soup, followed by haddock goujons that were melt in the mouth. The service was fantastic. Friendly helpful staff and the food came in a very reasonable time... not so quick that we felt rushed, perfect timing. We'll definitely be back!

We enjoyed a lovely weekend at this well located hotel. Very comfortable room, tastefully decorated and furnished, with a super king sized bed. We were at the front with a lovely view, and it was surprisingly quiet, even with the window open. Staff were very welcoming and helpful, and breakfast was delicious. We particularly liked the complimentary cream tea on arrival and fresh milk that was provided for tea and coffee in our room. We highly recommend this hotel and will definitely return .

I had a lovely experience with my wife at this establishment. Many thanks to Andrew as he was particularly hospitable. He was friendly, professional, and attentive throughout the night. Despite being incredibly busy, he remained approachable and made sure everyone was served swiftly. Very excited to come back!

Good: Room was in outbuildings behind the Crown Hotel; very nicely equipped and decorated. Our room had a large balcony with chairs, a copper bath, and a lovely view towards the church. The hotel is in a posh part of town, near a small park, with a walk down Staithe St to the quay. Free car park for hotel residents. Hotel was comfortable and the evening meal was good. Bad: Breakfast was expensive and lacked choice.
