What guests say
My wife and I recently stayed at the Galtres Lodge. These are our thoughts. 1. The location is fabulous, I would say the best in York, an easy walk to all areas. 2. The hotel is family run and it shows - they are friendly, happy to help and the hotel has a great relaxed family atmosphere. 3. The breakfasts are great - good selection, nice area to eat, the staff are friendly and the breakfast is huge and freshly cooked. 4. The lodge is traditional and our room was nice (not super big but this hotel is in the middle of the old town so you can not expect the rooms to be massive) They have really worked on providing a traditional look to the room. As experienced travelers doing approximately 70 days travel every year - we can say this hotel is well worth staying at.

Our first impressions were that the location is perfect. Speedy booking in and the staff were both very welcoming and friendly. We stayed in room 7, which was very nice. Very comfy bed and excellent shower, and a fantastic view of York Minster. The decor is rustic and charming. The food was delicious, while we stayed here we had breakfast both days, I had the Full Yorkshire breakfast both days and my wife had the porridge and eggs Benedict. One of the days we had lunch - the French dip sandwich and apple and celeriac soup are well worth trying! The evening menu is amazing, I highly recommend the Forest burger and for vegetarians/vegans my wife recommends the spicy cauliflower buffalo wings, both of which were delicious. It’s extremely well priced with very friendly service. All in all, 10/10 and we will be back soon. Thank you. Gayle and Craig.

We have just spent 2 nights at this truly superb central York establishment and cannot recommend it enough for tourists. The welcome was warm both metaphorically and literally as we stayed during York's hottest days on record at mid to high 30 degrees. The aesthetic is charming and classy, spotlessly clean and lovingly maintained. The central street location does mean volume levels entail early morning hustle and bustle, but this was with the windows wide open due to the aforementioned heatwave. The food is magnificent and wide-ranging and the facilities architecturely cosily maximised. We would definitely return on future visits to York.

Stayed here in Feb 2026 in room 9. I am a self proclaimed hotel snob. Not proud of it but am a bit particular. Having said that my stay here was absolutly delightful. The room was lovely, a good size, extreemly clean, with everything you need & opening windows with a great view of the street. Breakfast was relaxing & tasty. The location was unbeatable. NOW THE STAFF! The communication before my visit was fantastic. Whilst I was there they were all just lovely & helpful. The lovely night manager was so kind at 6am on my departure date. When it was difficult to get a taxi he used his uber account to find me a drive to the station & then carried my bag all the way out the back & made sure I got in the uber safely. As a solo traveller I appreciated the beautiful accommodation & the above & beyond staff. It is a rare delight. I would not hesitate to stay here again, in fact I wouldnt bother staying anywhere else. Thank you for making my trip so enjoyable
