Camping in Buxton

Buxton is ringed by working farmland and limestone hills, and the campsites around the town take full advantage of that setting without straying far from the centre. Most of the options nearby are small, family-run touring and camping parks rather than large holiday complexes, which suits the town's own understated character and its appeal to walkers and cyclists heading into the wider Peak District.

Sites within a couple of miles of Buxton tend to be set on working farms or smallholdings, with hardstanding pitches for tourers and motorhomes alongside space for tents, and the emphasis is generally on peace and views rather than entertainment programmes. Facilities are typically solid rather than flashy: heated shower blocks, electric hookup and on-site shops or cafes selling essentials, with dogs welcome at most. Given Buxton's altitude and its position at the edge of the National Park, weather can turn quickly even in summer, so a pitch with good drainage and a reasonable walk to facilities is worth checking before booking. All three sites below are within about a fifteen-minute drive of the town centre and make sensible bases for exploring both Buxton itself and villages such as Chelmorton, Monyash and Bakewell further into the Peak District.
