Chelsea is known first for football, and the Chelsea Stadium Tour at Stamford Bridge draws visitors who want to see behind the scenes of one of the country's biggest clubs. But there is more to the area than the stadium: the King's Road runs through its centre as one of London's most famous streets, lined with shops and restaurants, and the Royal Hospital Chelsea gives the area its ceremonial, historic edge.
Most visitors base themselves close to the King's Road or around Sloane Square, which puts the Chelsea Stadium Tour, the Saatchi Gallery and Gambado Chelsea all within easy reach. It is a compact area, so a stay here tends to mean walking between attractions rather than relying on the Tube.
Beyond football and shopping, the Saatchi Gallery is the area's main cultural draw, showing contemporary art in a grand Chelsea building, while BRICKLIVE in the Park Battersea nearby offers something different for families, and Gambado Chelsea is aimed squarely at younger visitors with energy to burn.
Whether the plan is a stadium tour followed by dinner, or a slower day taking in the Saatchi Gallery and the Royal Hospital, Chelsea rewards visitors who like their culture and their food within a short walk of each other.
