Stable Cottage

The Dumfries and Galloway landscape rolls through moorland and forest towards distant hills and the Solway Firth. Within this terrain sits the Crofts Estate, a 3000-acre property where Stable Cottage stands as a private retreat for two. The cottage is ground floor throughout, accessed along a private drive past other estate buildings, with parking on site and immediate access to the woodland and hillside trails that radiate outward.

Inside, the single bedroom contains a double bed, and a bathroom with bath and shower serves the living space. An open-plan area combines the living room, dining space and kitchen; the open fire is fuelled initially, and the kitchen is equipped for self-catering with microwave, fridge, freezer and washer-dryer. Electricity is included in the rent, and bed linen and towels are provided. One dog is welcome. The cottage does not permit smoking.

Dumfries town, 12 miles south, has shops, restaurants, museums and a theatre. Castle Douglas, eight miles away, is known for independent food shops and local produce. The Solway beaches are within reach, as is the National Trust's Threave Gardens. A village shop and pub lie four miles distant. The property suits couples seeking quiet countryside, though Galloway Forest Park, the Kite Trail and local golf courses are all accessible for day trips.
