Windermere village sits at the northern tip of England's most famous lake, with fells rising behind and the water's edge within walking distance. Orrest Head House anchors the village from its hilltop position, a 17th-century stone building set within over two acres of private grounds that feel wholly removed from the bustle below. The house sleeps 14 across six bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, making it the kind of place where a large family or group can spread out without compromise.
Inside, the layout unfolds across three floors with genuine living space rather than just bedrooms. There's a formal lounge with substantial seating, a separate snug with television, a dining room scaled for groups, and perhaps most unusually, a proper bar—Josiah Brown's, named after the house's 17th-century past. The kitchen handles serious cooking with two ovens, a range, and fridges enough for a crowd. Practical touches include a utility room with washer-dryer, two separate cloakrooms, and underfloor heating in the kitchen to take the edge off a Lakeland winter. Outside, a patio and garden furniture overlook the grounds, with a barbecue for summer entertaining and parking for ten cars on site. Wi-Fi, electricity, bed linen and towels are included; the woodburner has initial fuel provided. Smoking is not permitted inside.
The setting works for gatherings—weddings, reunions, celebrations—or for families wanting room to breathe. Windermere's shops, restaurants and lake access are a short walk away. One pet is welcome with you.

A great party house! A great location! Very spacious! Beautiful garden! Lovely bedrooms! Had to send my dog home though as the gate onto the busy main road was rotten and couldn’t be shut so not safe for him. No welcome pack either.

11 of us spent a couple of nights here on a hen weekend. Perfect place to party. Huge kitchen with more than enough crockery, cutlery etc. you have a choice of eating in the kitchen, dining room or on terrace. Lovely big lounge, with a smaller lounge and even a separate bar 😃. Bedrooms fab with comfy beds & pillows, slept like a baby. It's well situated to walk into town but be out of the hustle & bustle. Highly recommend
