Camping in Harlech

Harlech and its immediate surroundings offer a small but well-placed choice of campsites, most within a mile or two of the castle, beach and golf links, and all set against the backdrop of the Rhinogydd or the Dwyryd estuary. The coast road between Harlech and Talsarnau in particular has a cluster of long-established touring parks that make the most of the flat land between the mountains and the sea.

Options range from larger touring parks geared towards caravans and motorhomes, with hardstanding pitches and full service facilities, to smaller, family-run sites that take tents as well and have a quieter, more traditional camping feel. Several sites sit close enough to the beach and dunes to walk to them directly, while others trade sea views for a more sheltered, wooded setting a short drive inland. Dogs are welcome at most of the sites in the area, reflecting Harlech's popularity with walkers exploring the coast path and the hills behind the town.

Because the area is compact, most campsites listed here put you within a ten-to-fifteen-minute drive of Harlech Castle, the beach and the shops on the high street, whichever you choose. Booking ahead for the summer school holidays is essential, as pitch numbers at these smaller Snowdonia sites are limited and demand from golfers, walkers and families is high throughout July and August.
