Camping in Mumby

There are no formal campsites in Mumby itself, but the wider Coastal Country Park area around Anderby, Huttoft and Chapel St Leonards has a good number of caravan and camping parks geared towards the coast, and Mumby's flat, quiet farmland makes a peaceful, low-key base if you're touring by caravan or motorhome. As with anywhere in England, wild camping is not permitted without the landowner's explicit permission, so stick to licensed sites — of which there are several within a few miles, ranging from simple touring pitches to larger family-oriented holiday parks with static caravans.

The terrain here is flat and largely agricultural, cut through with drainage dykes, giving way to dunes and saltmarsh as you near the coast — very different walking and cycling country to the chalk hills of the Wolds further inland, but well suited to easy, level routes like the waymarked path between Mumby and Hogsthorpe. Coastal sites nearer Anderby Creek and Chapel St Leonards put you closer to the beach and the Cloud Bar, while sites further inland around Mumby and Alford offer a quieter, more rural pitch with easy access into the Wolds.

Camping season here runs roughly from Easter to the end of September, in line with most touring parks' opening dates, with July and August the busiest and breeziest months on the coast. Spring and early autumn tend to be calmer and cooler, and better for walking. If you'd rather not put up a tent, several parks in the area also offer glamping options — pods, static caravans or safari tents — giving a more comfortable base from which to explore the coast and the Wolds without the exposure of a standard pitch.
